Max Verstappen will start in the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan on Sunday as the leader in the standings for the world title in Formula 1.

That doesn’t mean much to him, and he indicated in the run-up to the race in Baku. “It’s about who is in first place after the last game.”

That doesn’t mean he’s on schedule. “But if we want to continue to do well, we also have to keep developing,” said the Dutchman, recently glorious winner of Monaco ‘classic’. “We all have to improve within the team, and we have to improve the car. Then we have a chance, also in Baku.”

World champion Lewis Hamilton disappointed in his Mercedes in Monaco. “They will do everything they can to come back very strong now,” Red Bull driver Verstappen expects.

“Of course, they have the qualities for that. It simply means that we cannot afford to make any mistakes if we want to beat them again. Fortunately, we have made few mistakes so far this season.”
