The corona vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna may be much more effective after a third shot.
This would appear from the first results of a study by the companies behind the vaccines. The antibodies against corona would be five to ten times higher after the third injection than after two injections.
The third dose should follow about six months after the second vaccination, according to Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna. This follow-up vaccination is also called a booster.
At the end of June, US researchers said the vaccines from the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna keep the immune system working for so long that they may provide years of protection against the virus, provided the virus does not mutate in a way that bypasses the vaccines.
Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna expect to release more information about the study soon.
