Ukraine wants peace but will defend itself and never surrender. That is what the wife of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, Olena Zelenska, wrote in a letter published Tuesday evening. She also called for the airspace over Ukraine to be closed.
The Russian invasion is a “murder of peaceful people”. “The war in Ukraine is not just a war anywhere. This is a war in Europe and on the borders with the EU,” said the first lady.
If Russian President Vladimir Putin is not stopped, she said there would be no safe place. “I know it sounds like a terrible dream. What happened a week ago is impossible to believe. But, then, our country was peaceful; our towns, villages and communities were full of life. But this is our new reality. We live in it. And we don’t know how long it will last. But we will definitely win,” Zelenska wrote.
The most shocking thing about the war is the children who die. “Eight-year-old Alice who died on the street in Okhtirka while her grandfather was trying to protect her, or Polina from Kyiv who died with her parents from shelling. 14-year-old Arseni was hit in the head by wreckage and could not be rescued because an ambulance did not reach him due to the fires.”
