Two Israeli army officers were killed in a helicopter crash on Monday evening. A third passenger was injured. The army reported this early on Tuesday morning.
The naval helicopter Atalef, Hebrew for bat, crashed into the sea off the coast of Haifa.
There were other attempts to resuscitate the two pilots, but they were unsuccessful. The naval officer who was also aboard the helicopter survived the crash.
“We don’t know at this point what happened,” Brigadier General Amir Lazar told Israeli media on Tuesday. “The helicopters are older, but they are durable.”
The Israeli Air Force has decided not to use helicopters of the same type for the time being.
