A snowstorm has caused severe traffic disruption in northern Japan. On the northern island of Hokkaido, about 70 percent of daily train traffic to and from Sapporo station has been stopped, the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper reported Monday.
Vehicle traffic was also severely affected by the storm. One person was killed in an accident involving more than ten vehicles, according to the Japanese television channel NHK.
Authorities warned residents in the region of further high winds and snowfall.
