Six countries are sending a fully vaccinated delegation to Tokyo for the Olympics.

Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives have promised the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that all their athletes and staff coming to Japan will be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The IOC has urged everyone who comes to Tokyo in July to get a vaccine.

In this way, the committee hopes to minimize the risks of contamination and the spread of the virus, both for the athletes themselves and Japanese residents.

The IOC sees the promise of the six countries as “a strong signal” that “within the Olympic community everyone is doing their utmost to ensure that the Games are safe for all participants and the Japanese people”.
