Oracle acquires e-health provider Cerner. With a price tag of 28.3 billion dollars, it would be the largest acquisition ever for Oracle.
Cerner specializes in digital technology that helps hospitals and healthcare facilities deliver better patients.
Oracle wants to use Cerner to transform healthcare, it says, including by empowering medical professionals with better information and easing the administrative workload. After the acquisition, Cerner customers would receive a more straightforward interface and voice control, among other things.
Cerner had revenue of $1.47 billion in the third quarter, up 7% from the same period a year earlier. The acquirer puts $95 per share on the table. The companies expect to close the transaction by the end of 2022.
