A recent photo taken by NASA’s Perseverance-Rover on Mars has sparked some speculation. The photo, taken at a location the rover has never visited, shows a pile of wires.
The photo was taken on July 12 and immediately sparked some discussion.
Fortunately, NASA was able to clear up the ambiguity quickly. According to the US space program, it is a leftover wire that came loose during the rover’s landing. The wire could be from the Perseverance itself or from the landing gear.
The wind probably blew the wire to where the rover never came before. So the wires were gone when the rover returned four days later to the same spot where it took the photo.
It’s also not the first time the rover has encountered material from its own landing gear. NASA previously tweeted a photo of shiny foil on Mars. However, the space program thought it was the thermal blanket of the rover that also came off during the landing. And in April, photos emerged that looked like a UFO had crashed into Mars.
Afterwards, NASA clarified that it was also about the landing gear at that time. Then the rover’s parachute was also clearly visible.
