More Than Half A Million Corona Infections in Russia

The number of corona infections diagnosed in Russia has passed 500,000. Authorities report that a further 8,779 people have been diagnosed with the virus in the past 24 hours.

 

This brings the total number of detected infections in the country to 502,436. The death toll rose by 174 to 6,532.

Russia reported the highest rate of corona cases after the United States and Brazil. The official death toll is relatively low compared to other hard-hit countries.

The authorities in the capital Moscow have largely withdrawn the strict lockdown this week.

The millions of inhabitants of the city can move freely again.

Critics say it is too early to relax such measures and think the authorities have political reasons for doing so.
