Approval has been requested from the American authorities for the emergency use of a booster shot of the Janssen vaccine.

According to the makers, an extra jab provides better protection. The application is made for people aged 18 and over.

Johnson & Johnson, the parent company of the Dutch vaccine maker Janssen, reports after research that a second dose provides 94 percent protection and 100 percent is effective against severe disease. A single dose of the corona vaccine is now being given.

The request will be considered by an advisory committee of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Oct. 15. A request from Moderna will be processed the day before. He has sent data for the approval of a booster shot of his own corona vaccine, also for adults.

The FDA previously approved a booster shot of Pfizer/BioNTech’s corona vaccine. It may only be administered to people aged 65 and over and a number of other risk groups. It concerns several tens of millions of people.
