The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the rocket attack on Kabul airport Monday morning. Some of the missiles are said to have been intercepted by the missile defence system near the airport. It is not yet clear how much damage the attack caused.
At first, it was not clear who had shot and what exactly. The missiles may have been fired from a vehicle north of the Afghan capital.
Journalists from the French news agency AFP heard several rockets flying over the city. And residents in the vicinity of the airport heard that the missile defence system was activated.
The Afghan-Pakistani branch of IS was also responsible for Thursday’s bombing at the Kabul airport, which allegedly killed 170 Afghans, according to unofficial sources.
Thirteen American soldiers were also killed. In retaliation for this attack, the United States carried out two drone strikes on targets of the terrorist group.
