The US Department of Justice clears Google to acquire security provider Mandiant for $5.4 billion.
Mandiant is releasing a SaaS security product and will become part of Google Cloud. With this, Google wants to strengthen its security offering to better compete with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
Google announced the acquisition in March, but protests quickly erupted. As a result, one of Mandiant’s shareholders has filed a lawsuit to block the sale.
That case has yet to be pronounced, but Google already has government approval. The tech giant expects to complete the merger by the end of 2022.
