In some regions of Germany with many corona infections, additional restrictions are needed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, German Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Friday.
“Where the number of infections in Germany is higher, I think there is a need for additional measures to reduce further the number of contacts beyond what has been agreed,” Spahn told the German channel ZDF.
“We still have too many districts and regions, where additional measures are needed “, he added.
In Germany, the corona measures have been extended this week to January 10. Restaurants, museums and theatres, among others, remain closed in this so-called lockdown light, which has now lasted a month.
Earlier it had already been decided to relax the restrictions for meetings a little during the holidays so that a maximum of ten people can come together.
In Germany, the number of corona infections in the last 24 hours has increased by more than a thousand compared to the day before. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, reported 23,449 new cases on Friday morning.
The upward trend thus continues in the week. The RKI reported 22,046 new cases on Thursday, around 17,000 on Wednesday and approximately 13,500 infections on Tuesday.
