The G7, the group of rich industrial countries, condemns Belarus for creating an illegal flow of migrants to the European Union. Therefore, the foreign ministers called on the country to immediately stop the “aggressive and exploitative campaign”.
The British government has stated on behalf of the countries’ foreign ministers on the heated issue. In addition to the United Kingdom, the G7 consists of Germany, France, Italy, the United States, Canada, and Japan. The European Union is also represented in it and supports the statement.
It blames the regime of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for endangering human lives. Several people have already been killed and injured. In a border area near Poland, thousands of migrants spend the night in a makeshift tent camp because they cannot travel through the reinforced borders. The foreign ministers believe that international aid organizations should be allowed to provide humanitarian aid to the area.
The G7 also praised the EU for working with countries from which the migrants come, especially in the Middle East, to end the flow of migrants. Several countries have already taken measures to prevent migrants from travelling through Belarus to other parts of Europe by banning certain nationalities from flights.
