A 62-year-old firefighter died on Sunday while on duty in a forest fire in Losacio, Spain, in the northwest of the country.

The region’s authorities of Castile and Leon reported this the night from Sunday to Monday. The country is struggling with numerous forest fires during a heat wave. Therefore, the region announces a day of mourning.

The firefighter was trapped by the fire, which was very treacherous due to the strong gusts of wind, as local Spanish media reported. Several of the man’s colleagues are still in Zamora hospital. A firefighter who suffered severe burns was transferred to Getafe.

The Losacio forest fire forced 1,200 residents from four villages to evacuate. However, the strong wind makes it difficult to put out the fire.
