The top American expert in the field of infectious diseases, Anthony Fauci, said in an interview with CBS that he was “absolutely not” surprised that President Donald Trump became infected with the coronavirus.

“I was worried that he would get sick when I saw him in a completely precarious situation in a crowded place, with no distance between people and hardly anyone wearing a face mask.”

“When I saw that on TV, I said, Oh my goodness. Nothing good can come out of that, that must be a problem,” he continued. “Sure enough, it turned out to be a super spreader event.”

Fauci appeared to be referring to the meeting in the White House yard where Trump announced that Judge Amy Coney Barrett was his choice to replace Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

At least twelve people tested positive for Covid-19 after attending the September 26 event.

Although the ceremony was held outside and many attendees were tested before admission, photos and videos from the event showed few people wearing masks, many people greeting each other with hugs and handshakes, and sitting very close together.
