After violent confrontations near the China-India border, the European Union calls on both “key partners” for “restraint and military de-escalation”.
EU foreign chief Josep Borrell says in a statement that he trusts the Indian and Chinese authorities to enter into a dialogue and find a peaceful solution.
According to the Indian army, 20 soldiers were killed in an incident involving Chinese soldiers in the controversial Indian border region of Ladakh in the Himalayas.
Beijing accused Indian border troops of entering Chinese territory, resulting in hostilities.
The EU deplores the victims and condolences to their loved ones, Borrell said.
