The European Parliament is making available to the authorities in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg buildings, official cars and trucks to assist in the corona crisis.
A spokesperson announced this. Due to the corona crisis, politicians and staff mostly work from home, and many offices are vacant. About a hundred official cars and trucks with drivers are also standing still.
Secretary-General Klaus Welle offered Brussels on Wednesday to use parliamentary resources to fight the coronavirus.
Buildings could serve as field hospitals or as temporary shelters for those in need of assistance. The drivers could help transport food or medicine, the spokesman said.
Parliament meets twelve times a year in Strasbourg.
Plenary sessions have been postponed until September due to the crisis. A large part of the administration of the parliament is housed in Luxembourg.
