The United Kingdom now also recognizes the European corona certificate. As a result, Dutch citizens and other EU citizens can travel more quickly to the former EU country with such a pass. The EU, in turn, accepts the British corona proof.
In addition to the United Kingdom, Armenia also joins. This brings the number of countries where the certificate, which works with a QR code, can be used to 45. “More will follow in the coming weeks and months”, says responsible European Commissioner Didier Reynders.
With the certificate, the wearer can show that the chance that they are carrying the coronavirus is small, thanks to a full vaccination or a previous infection or because they have recently tested negative. The European Commission hopes to get it recognized in as many countries as possible to get travel going again.
The mutual recognition will take effect on Friday.
