Entrepreneur and SpaceX founder Elon Musk wants to start a program in which CO2 is removed from the air and can be used as rocket fuel. He says so on Twitter.

According to Musk, his intention is important to undertake a space trip to the planet Mars one day.

SpaceX’s rockets, including the new Falcon 9, use kerosene as fuel like all other space rockets. As with normal vehicles, CO2 is released during combustion. The dust emission and its increased concentration in the atmosphere is one of the main causes of climate change and global warming. It is not yet clear how he intends to convert carbon dioxide back into fuel for his rockets.

Musk recently announced the XPrize Carbon Removal program, freeing up $100 million for scientists and students who want to research and develop methods to remove CO2 from the air and convert it into another, cleaner substance…

The billionaire, the founder of the electric car brand Tesla and space company SpaceX, was voted Time Person of the Year yesterday. Time describes Musk as a “clown, genius, attention seeker, visionary, industrialist and showman”.

His nomination not only leads to applause but also to strong criticism. Musk’s attitude toward taxes and unions, in particular, has hit critics off the mark. His net worth is estimated at about $300 billion, making him the richest person on Earth, while according to research, he paid just over 3 percent in taxes in recent years.
