The data of about 637,000 Albanians are on the street. Therefore, the data breach affects almost a quarter of the Albanian population. This is reported by various media, including the Albanian Exit.al and Euractiv.

An Excel file has appeared on the internet shared via WhatsApp, among other things. It contains citizen ID numbers, salary information, job titles and employer data. The data presumably comes from the Albanian tax authorities.

This is the second major data breach in Albania in a year. In April, data on some 910,000 Albanians leaked. That data was allegedly stolen from the country’s personal registry.

The public prosecutor is currently investigating the most recent data breach. The focus is on the authenticity and source of information.
