China has banned the construction of skyscrapers over 500 meters high due to concerns about the safety and quality of the construction projects.
Buildings higher than 250 meters are also subject to strict restrictions locally, according to a national commission on development and reform.
In the Chinese city of Shenzhen, a 72-storey building was closed in May after it began to wobble inexplicably. Since then, there have been major concerns about the safety of high-rise buildings.
According to the commission, the construction of buildings higher than 100 meters must be strictly in accordance with the scale of the city where they will be located. The firefighting capacity also plays a role in this.
There are ten buildings worldwide that are higher than 500 meters. Five of them are located in China.
