A 16-year-old boy has been killed in riots with Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank. That’s what Palestinian sources say. The boy was allegedly hit in the head with a bullet, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
The riots started when Israeli soldiers closed the Tomb of Joseph, the memorial site in the city of Nablus, to a visit by settlers.
The army said on Twitter that a pre-arranged visit by believers to Joseph’s Tomb sparked riots with hundreds of Palestinians. They threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at the soldiers. The soldiers shot at a suspect who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail, it is said. That one was hit too.
According to tradition, Joseph’s Tomb is the final resting place of the biblical figure Joseph, the son of the patriarch Jacob. Jews, Christians and Muslims alike venerate the grave. Jews can only enter the memorial after approval.
