According to the newspaper Bild of the European Medicines Agency EMA, the German government is demanding that the corona vaccine from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and BioNTech be approved on December 23.

According to Berlin, that cannot wait until December 29.

Chancellor Merkel and her Ministry of Health are exerting tremendous pressure, according to the newspaper, because many infections have been identified and also because BioNTech is a German pharmaceutical company from Mainz.

The vaccine is already being administered in Great Britain, the United States and Canada. It has also been approved in Bahrain and Singapore.

According to the German government, “questions arise about the decisiveness of the European Union,” said Bild. Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Monday that Germany would like to have the vaccine approved before Christmas, to start vaccinating before the end of the year.

The country of 83 million inhabitants will go into a strict lockdown again on Wednesday until at least January 10.

The country currently has about 350,000 patients, including nearly 4,700 critical cases. This year, almost 23,000 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.
