In the United States, the Attorney General of West Virginia filed a complaint against the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and his former Bishop Michael Bransfield for deliberately putting sex offenders to work. That was announced on Tuesday.
Bransfield and his diocese are accused of knowingly recruiting sex offenders and priests accused of sex crimes when hiring staff for schools and holiday camps.
In various cases, the clergymen went into treatment and then worked with children again.
The method is in stark contrast to the promise of the church to ensure that children can learn in safe environments. The investigation into the case had already started in September 2018.
In the state of Pennsylvania, in August 2018, it was discovered that about three hundred priests had abused at least a thousand children.
Since then, the authorities in several states have started an investigation, as a result of which new cases continue to emerge. It is the first time that there has been a charge against an entire diocese.
