The appeal in the case of the December murders against the Surinamese former president Desi Bouterse is due on July 29, the Surinamese news site Starnieuws writes.
Four other suspects are on trial. They had also appealed their sentence. It is not known how long the appeal will take.
Bouterse was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2019 for the murder of 15 opponents of his military regime in 1982. He is not suspected of carrying out the murders but is held responsible.
The sentence was confirmed in 2021 after Bouterse had objected.
