For the third day in a row, a record number of new coronavirus infections has been detected in Germany.
In the past 24 hours, 18,681 cases were added, reports the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM.
With the new infections added, the total number of German corona infections comes to 499,694. In the past 24 hours, a further 77 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded, bringing the total death toll to 10,349.
The authorities announced on Wednesday that the country would be partially locked again on Monday to contain the spread of the virus. Bars and restaurants will be closed until the end of November, as will fitness studios, theatres and cinemas.
Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that Germany is in danger of being in a “dramatic situation” and that the increasing number of corona cases will overload health care.
